Investing in sustainability with crypto currency

Cryptocurrencies are still hugely popular. If you pay close attention to what you are doing, you can invest in them just fine. Of course, prices fluctuate. But that happens with shares in the stock market too. If you never take a gamble in life, you'll just lead a boring life. If you make money investing in crypto, you can, of course, spend it on a nice holiday. But you can also use it to invest in your home. And you will enjoy that considerably longer than 3 weeks in the Maldives.

Why is sustainability important?

Many people see climate change as a distant issue. That's something for later, for generations to come. But nothing could be further from the truth. We have to stop using fossil fuels within a few decades. If we don't, the earth will be destroyed a lot faster than we currently assume. If we want to keep the planet livable, we have to do something about it now. This is not just what climate activists proclaim at a demonstration. It is the hard truth supported by scientific research. You can contribute to this yourself by making your home more sustainable.

Anyone can insulate

By insulating, anyone can do it, we do not mean that you literally have to do it yourself. But almost every house in the Netherlands is suitable for cavity wall insulation. This involves injecting insulating material between the two outer walls. The space between those walls is called the cavity, hence the term. By insulating the outer walls of a house, the heat inside is retained much better. The logical consequence is that you don't have to heat as much. And an additional advantage is that you thereby make the house suitable for alternatives to the central heating boiler, such as a heat pump or connection to a heat network.

Old houses have no cavity walls

In the 1920s, no one was aware of environmental risks. Houses built at that time therefore often did not have cavity walls. Then, insulation is not possible that way either. But you can choose pre-wall insulation. The walls are placed on the inside against the outside walls, basically creating the same effect as if you were to insulate the cavity walls. In doing so, you not only benefit from less heat loss, but also more living comfort. Moisture and mould have less chance in the house. In some cases, you can get a subsidy for insulating your house. You can get more information about this from your municipality.
