Knaken is officially registered with De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) as a provider of cryptocurrency services. This means that we must comply with Dutch legislation, and it is therefore necessary to verify your account.
You can make your first purchase at Knaken without verification, but for any subsequent actions, you will need a verified account. We will need proof of your identity and residential address for this purpose.
Verifying your identity
You can verify your identity in two ways: through the app and the web portal.
Verifying in the Knaken app
Note: Make sure to first grant access to your camera in the app, and preferably your location!
Open the Knaken app and log in if you haven’t done so yet. Then click on ‘open verifications’ and select ‘verify identity.’ You will first be asked to share your location. Do this, or select “I prefer not to” if you do not want to share.
Now follow the instructions on your screen. You will need to take a photo of yourself (selfie), and one of the following documents:
– your passport
– your ID
– your driver’s license
– your residence permit
Make sure that the text on the documents is clearly readable.
Your request is now being processed. We will check the documents as soon as possible and send you an email when we have done this.
Verifying in the Knaken portal
Log in to our website using your laptop or tablet, for example. Once you have logged in successfully, select ‘verification’ on the left side, and you will see this screen:
Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera and follow the instructions on your phone’s screen.
You will need to take a photo of yourself (selfie), and one of the following documents:
– your passport
– your ID
– your driver’s license
– your residence permit
Make sure that the text on the documents is clearly readable.
Your request is now being processed. We will check the documents as soon as possible and send you an email when we have done this.
Verifying your residential address
You can verify your address at Knaken in three ways. The easiest way is to use iDIN.
Verifying address with iDIN
iDIN is a safe and reliable service from Dutch banks that allows us to automatically verify your address. However, it may be that your bank has a different residential address registered than the one you provided to us. This means that you will need to verify your address in another way.
Verifying residential address with a physical document
You will need a physical document that is no more than 3 months old. The document must come from an official institution or a company that has verified your identity.
Examples of documents you can use are:
– Letter from the government
– Letter/invoice from energy provider
– Invoice from phone subscription
– Letter from the bank
The document must not be in an envelope and the sender with date must be visible.
Verifying residential address with a digital document
We also offer the option to verify with a PDF file that is no more than 3 months old.
Note: This can currently only be done via the web portal.
The document must come from an official institution or a company that has verified your identity.
Examples of PDFs you can use are:
– Bank statement
– Message from the government
– Message/invoice from energy provider
– Invoice from phone subscription
