What is LimeWire

LimeWire was a popular peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing program launched in the early 2000s. It enabled users to share files, such as music, movies, software, and documents, directly with each other through a decentralized network. LimeWire utilized the Gnutella network, one of the first P2P networks, to search for and download files.Although LimeWire initially gained popularity due to its user-friendliness and the ability to quickly download files, it faced legal issues due to the distribution of copyrighted material. In 2010, LimeWire was forced to cease its services following a lawsuit filed by the American music industry.Since then, other P2P file-sharing platforms and technologies have been developed, but LimeWire remains a reminder of the early days of file sharing on the internet and the ensuing legal challenges surrounding copyright and digital distribution.
